Asger Harbou Gjerdevik explores the liminal state. Working in painting, sculpture, and collage, Gjerdevik uses the concept of the journey as a consistent theme in both subject matter and process. Influenced by film, architecture, and artists such as Julian Schnabel and Robert “R.” Crumb, Gjerdevik samples and incorporates elements from a variety of sources, altering and reconstructing them to shape something new. Working in between the figurative and the abstract, he often incorporates motifs that invoke time, life, and death, such as the sun, skulls, and fire. He studied at Central Saint Martins and received his MA in Painting from the Royal College of Art in 2017. Ref. Artsy
